How It All Started
Howdy friends and family! I wanted to let you in on some changes you’ll be seeing over the next couple weeks and explain why you’ll be seeing them. When I started blogging six months ago, I thought it would be all about my love of vintage and my furniture adventures. The blog started out as a way for me to ramble about these things without driving my friends to distraction with things they weren’t interested in talking about 24/7. At the time I didn’t think anyone would read it, and so I’ve been touched by each comment you have left here, on Facebook, or have passed along to my husband to give to me. Yes, he gives me all your feedback and I’m always appreciative, flattered, and humbled by it. It has meant a lot to me so Thank You!
When I started blogging, I had planned to keep our family life separate since I value our privacy so much. However, I quickly realized while I excel at painting furniture, it remains a very, very small part of my life. Honestly, I paint during the winter to pass the time and then quit when the weather improves, unless I come across a piece of furniture that catches my eye. Could I blog about it year round? Nope, it doesn’t sound like it.
If I’m not a full time furniture flipper, then who am I?
My Primary Job
First and foremost, I am a wife and mother and that’s where most of my energy is placed each day. Like many of you, we are an island. We live in a city where my husband’s job is located, but we don’t have any family here to help out with emergencies, for date night (I vaguely remember going on those!), for anything. Stew’s schedule varies greatly from day to day and from week to week, and I need to be available for any emergencies that may pop up, for after school activities and home work, and everything in between. So the “mom” role is more than a full time job for me. Even though I get bored with the monotony of it, I love it and wouldn’t change it for the world. How do you like that for honesty? The being bored part. Not the I wouldn’t change it for the world part.
My kids are to an age where they value their own privacy, but I can assure you I will be sharing our adventures in navigating Tweenhood. I swear my oldest has been exchanged with a baby alien most days. Who is this kid and where did he come from???? Yep, that’s just about sums up how much I understand the Tween boy thought process at this point, and since the younger is quickly following in his footsteps I’ll consider him as Tweenie, too.
We’ve been blessed with two Einsteins, but that doesn’t mean our lives have been easy. If you know us personally, you’ll remember how hard the first 4 years were with each boy. I learned a lot about life and a lot about human nature during that time. It changed me from a quiet, insecure mom to a mama bear who fought for every single thing my boys needed. We are the fortunate ones. Our boys are doing great and now fit in with their peers, but my heart will always be with the special needs parents. I plan on putting together some resources which helped us with the sensory issues our boys had and will make those available for download.
My Lifestyle Interests
I’m heavily immersed in working out and with living a healthy lifestyle. I lost over 50 pounds after graduating from college and was able to keep it off even after having two kids within two years of each other. I’ve worked out with one of the top coaches in the world, Bret Contreras, and later worked for him. Now in my mid-40’s I’m in better shape than most 20 year olds. I work out 2-3 days per week and can maintain my size and strength with this.
You don’t have to kill yourself in the gym, spend lots of time each day working out, or starve yourself to lose weight and get fit. I’m willing to share those tips I’ve learned along the way so you don’t make the mistakes I made. Anybody interested in learning more?
I am a work in progress. I’m happy and confident with who I am, but it has taken a long journey to get here and to stay here. I like to see women lift each other up, support and encourage one another, and would love to create a tribe of like minded women who know we’ve always got your back on good days and bad. Life is short and ladies need to quit tearing each other apart just because they have their own insecurities. I see this every day on group boards and forums and it doesn’t have to be that way.
Change your mindset. Change your life.
It’s quite simple really. Invite your friends here and let’s create a community where we can share and grow each day. I’ve experienced this with the Get Glutes workout community and would love to see it happen here. Stay tuned for more on this!
There’s going to be some big changes coming and if you’re only here for the furniture makeovers, I hope you’ll drop back in on occasion to see what’s new. I’ll still be doing monthly projects with Poppie’s Paint Powder along with other craft projects, but it will no longer be my main focus. Please bear with me while I’m changing things on the website. I’m a total newb when it comes to dealing with technology on this level.
