As Stew and his teammates are finishing up the Bourbon Chase 200 mile relay race today, I’m finishing up 2 more kitchen cabinet doors. And at this point I would say neither one of us are having much fun, but we’re both almost done.
Our kitchen has 42 doors and drawers and I now only have 6 doors left. There IS an end in sight. I’ve been working on the cabinets since August, in between cross country and soccer practice, ball games and homework, trips out of town and family in town to visit.
And many days I forget that there are other rooms in the house that need to be dusted and vacuumed and that maybe my kids would enjoy something to eat besides pizza or cereal.
The oldest keeps asking me why I’m still painting them, as if I could quit because I’m tired of it. Two tone kitchens might be in, but I don’t think that means a section in the middle is left original.
Sorry buddy. This tired mama doesn’t want to be working on it any more than you want me to work on it.
But it’s gotta be done and there is an end in sight…
The kitchen cabinets makeover is slowly coming together. I can stand on one side of the kitchen and admire the freshly painted cabinetry. And soon I’ll be able to admire the entire kitchen.
It has been a huge chore just like I knew it would be, but I am so thrilled that I took this on. When all is said and done, I’ll feel as if I have a brand new kitchen with very little money put into it.
But for now, I’m still knee deep in the midst of painting.
Fall break and our traveling are wrapping up and next week I hope to knock out most, if not all, of the remaining doors. But honestly, it’ll probably be another 2 weeks before I’m done.
