This fresh Peach Cobbler is a traditional Southern recipe. It’s so easy to make yet it tastes like it comes from a restaurant. Top it off with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream to complete that sweet goodness you and your guests will enjoy so much.
For me there’s nothing better than smelling fresh, ripe peaches during the summer. The smell alone makes my mouth water and my imagination run wild with all the possibilities. I think homemade peach ice cream is my absolute favorite, but this peach cobbler comes in a close second. It’s so easy to make and uses basic ingredients you should already have on hand.
Earlier this week I had picked up some peaches at the fruit stand. They weren’t quite ripe at the time and a couple of the farm folks working the fruit stand told me to lay them out on a tea towel in cool place out of direct sunlight and then just be patient while nature did its thing.
Fortunately it only took a couple of days for the peaches to ripen. Aren’t the colors just beautiful?
Since my mother-in-law was coming to visit this weekend and the peaches were finally ripe, I decided to whip together this delicious peach cobbler.
We also took Grammie out to the farm for the first time and all she could say was that we had lots of work ahead of us.
True but you have to see it for the diamond it will sooner or later become. It’s a really pretty piece of property. It’s just been neglected for years and years this point.
Anyway, back to the cobbler…
Making the Peach Cobbler…
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
I added the butter to the casserole dish and then popped it into the microwave to melt it.
Slice up 4 cups of fresh, ripened peaches. You can add a couple of tablespoons of sugar to the peaches if you want them taste sweeter.
Layer the peaches on top of the butter.
In a medium bowl mix the sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, milk, and cinnamon together and then spoon over the peaches.
Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve hot and top with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- 4 C fresh peaches, sliced
- ½ cup butter, melted
- 1 C sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 C all purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ C milk
- 2 tbsp sugar (optional, to sweeten peaches)
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Place melted butter in 9x13 casserole dish.
- Slice peaches and add enough sugar to sweeten them then place in casserole dish.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, salt, baking powder, flour, cinnamon, and milk. Spoon over peaches.
- Bake 45 minutes or until brown.
I served it on some pretty blue and white china plates I recently picked up and I think it really made a pretty presentation. The crust was slightly crunchy and the peaches were the perfect sticky sweetness you would expect.
